EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A Cuban investigator is set to retake the stand in the U.S. trial against a former CIA operative accused of lying about his role in a string of 1997 bombings on the island when he later sought American citizenship.
Lt. Col. Roberto Hernandez Caballero has been detailing the bombings at some of the island's most luxurious hotels. Hernandez headed a task force that investigated bombings in Havana and the beach resort of Varadero between April and October 1997. An Italian tourist was killed in one explosion and about a dozen other people were injured in the others.
The 82-year-old Posada is accused of lying during immigration hearings in El Paso in 2005 and 2006. The Cuba native faces perjury, obstruction and immigration fraud charges.
